Major John M. Maury, USMCR, was originally ordered to Moscow on 10 December 1943 as Assistant U.S. Naval Attaché. His orders subsequently changed his duty assignment to Murmansk, where he arrived on 29 February 1944. Maury was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel shortly after his arrival.
